Terms of Service
Last updated: 18 June 2026
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the Chekit website and marketplace. By using Chekit, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please don’t use the service.
1. Who we are
Chekit operates an online marketplace based in Nairobi, Kenya, that connects customers, merchants, and riders. Chekit provides the platform, payment handling, and delivery coordination; merchants are independent businesses responsible for the products they sell.
2. Eligibility and accounts
You must be at least 18 years old to use Chekit. You’re responsible for keeping your account details accurate and your login secure, and for activity that happens under your account.
3. Buying on Chekit
- You can add products from many different stores into a single cart and check out in one payment.
- Your payment is held safely (in escrow) and is not released to sellers until you confirm your order arrived as expected.
- Prices shown already include VAT, so the price you see is the price you pay — nothing extra is added at checkout.
- On delivery you confirm what you actually received. Accepted items release payment to the seller; anything missing or wrong is refunded.
4. Payments
Payments are made primarily through M-Pesa and other methods offered by our licensed payment partners. By placing an order, you authorise us and our partners to process the payment for your order.
5. Delivery
When an order is ready, the most suitable nearby rider is assigned from the Chekit fleet, a merchant’s own riders, or a third-party courier partner. You can track delivery in real time. Delivery times are estimates and may vary.
6. Returns and refunds
If you reject items on delivery, you’re refunded for those items and no receipt is issued for them. After confirming, you may still request a return; the merchant has 48 hours to respond, and if they don’t, Chekit steps in and arranges collection. Refunds for returned goods come from the merchant’s balance.
7. Selling on Chekit
- Merchants must pass identity and business verification (KYC) before listing.
- Merchants pay commission only on completed sales — there are no setup or monthly fees. Your applicable rate is shown clearly in your dashboard before any sale.
- When a customer confirms delivery, the merchant’s earnings are released and become available to withdraw to M-Pesa after a short holding period.
- A valid KRA electronic tax receipt is generated automatically on every confirmed sale.
- Merchants are responsible for the accuracy, quality, legality, and fulfilment of their listings.
8. Acceptable use
You agree not to misuse Chekit — including by posting unlawful or counterfeit goods, defrauding other users, attempting to bypass payment protection, or interfering with the platform’s operation or security.
9. Disputes
If something goes wrong, there’s a clear process with a real person reviewing it. We aim to resolve disputes fairly and promptly between buyers and sellers.
10. Liability
Chekit provides the marketplace “as is”. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under Kenyan consumer-protection law.
11. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms as the service evolves. We’ll post the updated version here and revise the date above. Continued use means you accept the changes.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Kenya.
